This is a code-approved, cost-effective alternative to a full rewire.
What is knob-and-tube wiring, and why must it be replaced?
Knob-and-tube was standard in homes built before 1940. It uses single open wires supported by porcelain knobs and run through tubes. It has no ground wire, meaning it cannot support modern three-prong appliances and presents high shock hazards. Additionally, it cannot be covered by thermal insulation in attics or walls because it relies on open air to cool, making it a major fire hazard.
How long does a whole-house rewiring take?

Why are my outlets ungrounded (two-prong), and how do we fix it?
