Do I need a panel upgrade to install a Level 2 EV charger?
Not necessarily. If your home has a 200-amp panel, there is usually ample capacity. For 100-amp panels, we perform a load calculation to see if an upgrade is required or if we can configure lower charging amps.
Is a hardwired EV charger better than using a plug-in NEMA 14-50 outlet?
Yes. Hardwiring is generally superior for EV charging because it eliminates physical plugs (removing a potential point of resistance and heat), allows for faster charging speeds (up to 48A), and satisfies outdoor code requirements easily.
